1356 (10") Vakabauta Village Fiji. Category 03: Affordable Housing
Toby Kyle & Christopher Cole: Fiji
The designers’ interest was to take a high-density apartment structure in Fiji, scheduled for demolition, and create sustainable, community oriented living quarters in its place. Steel is used for primary structural framing, with bamboo in secondary use, and all internal floor, wall, and ceiling elements are made of bamboo. The community hall is made of sculptural bamboo with a high-quality tarpaulin cover.
