International Bamboo Building Design Competition Jurors
Jurors may evaluate submissions in one or more design categories.
David E. Sands, AIA, Bamboo Technologies. Architect of bamboo houses. Founder of EcoArchitecture. Licensed architect in Hawaii and VP of Int'l Bamboo Foundation. Former president of the American Inst of Architects, Maui Chapter. Member of Int'l Building Committee for INBAR.
Oscar Hidalgo, Bamboo Architect. Famous Colombian architect. His interest in Guadua bamboo began forty years ago. He has dedicated his life to bamboo research, and teaching the world about its limitless possibilities. Author of Bamboo: The Gift of the Gods,
David Greenberg, Treehouses of Hawaii. Architectural and Urban Designer, Founder of Treehouses of Hawaii. Created 2001 Int'l Treehouse Competition, with 500 entries and 100 are in his 2006 book "Treehouses in Paradise: Fantasy Designs for the 21st Century".
Linda Garland, Panchoran Retreat. An international designer and environmentalist who has made her home in Indonesia for over 20 years, a bamboo retreat center in Ubud, Bali. She founded the International Bamboo Foundation and the Environmental Bamboo Foundation.
Shyam K. Paudel, INBAR. Program Officer for the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) in Beijing China, Developing rural livelihoods, environments and businesses worldwide through bamboo and rattan and promoting housing and sustainable development.
Wang ShaoQiang, Sandu Cultural Media. Chief Editor of Design 360 -Concept and Design Magazine. Associate Professor of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. President of Guangzhou Graphic Designer Association. Member of Guangdong Culture Institute.
Wolfgang Rettberg, Professor at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Hildesheim/ Holzminden/ Göttingen in Germany. Specialist in green architecture since 1981. Also specialist in designing 0-energy-buildings by using growing back material.
Dean Johnston m.arch, Johnston•Cassel. Principal at Johnston.Cassel of Maui. See his Creating a Culture of Bamboo Powerpoint Presentation. With University of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Architecture, Dean pioneered research on the testing of structural bamboo.
Joerg Stamm, Eco Bamboo. Internationally recognized designer and master builder of large bamboo structures, buildings and bridges using guadua structural bamboo. His EcoBamboo production company is located in Candelaria, Colombia.
Alexander von Vegesack, Vitra Design Museum. Cultural manager and collector of industrial furniture design. Founding Director of Vitra Design Museum which he heads since 1989. For ten years, organizes with Centre Georges Pompidou a summer academy in France at Domaine de Boisbuchet. The estate serves as centre of experimental architecture.
Jennifer Siegal, Office of Mobile Design. Founder and principal of the Los Angeles-based firm Office of Mobile Design (OMD), which focuses on designing "portable, demountable, and relocatable structures." Many projects are featured in Mobile: The Art of Portable Architecture.
Bart Trudeau, Trudeau Architects. Trudeau Architects, Latham N.Y., specializing in Architectural Support Services for Institutional Facilities. Chair of the 2006 AIA Codes and Standards Committee.
Venerable Hang Truong. Master Heng Chang (Hang Truong), a Vietnamese Chan Master who is very well known for a holistic, integral approach to modernize and integrate Buddhism into 21st century. He has been working with various Buddhist communities in America, Asia, and Europe to promote a peaceful, evolutionary, and holistic ways of living and being.
Howard Davis, University of Oregon. Professor of Architecture. Specialist in vernacular architecture, low-cost housing, community design. Projects in India, Thailand, Japan: houses and mixed-use urban buildings. Author of Culture of Building and co-author of Production of Houses.
Darrel DeBoer, DeBoer Architects. Northern California architect named as one of the 100 most influential designers and one of the top 10 green architects. Six books including The Art of Natural Building. His work is featured in books such as Bamboo Style and Sustainable Homes.
Jean-Luc Kouyoumji, CTBA France. Research Engineer for Centre Technique du Bois et de L'Ameublement, Bordeaux France. Bamboo Researcher and Expert.
